Hello, I was just wondering if I could have some help... well the thing is that I had a mic for the computer for a while and when I plugged it in recently I could get any sound. Thus, thinking "Oh, it's probably broken..." I went out and bought another one, well once I connected this mic I couldn't get any sound either, can someone offer some suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Have u updated ur sound card? To check if u have a diff. sound card...Look in the back of the PC and if u see a slot with audio jacks coming out, then u have an external audio card.

It sounds like a problem with your sound card. You will need to first, update your drivers for it. If that does not work, you may need to replace it.
What Brand sound card do you have, or, what brand and model computer do you have so that we can point you in the right direction.

Here's a couple ideas. The microphone could be on mute, so go to Start> Control Panel> Sounds and Audio Devices> Then in the middle there should be an advanced button. Click it.
It should open up a panel with lots of volume bars. If you don't see Microphone listed, click on options > Properties and then in the bottom should be a bunch of options with check boxes, one of them is Microphone. Check it, and then click ok. The volume control should refresh and near the right side should be Microphone. Make sure the mute button is not checked and that the volume slider is somewhere in the middle.
To test my microphone, I just go to start> programs > accessories > Entertainment > Sound recorder and I try to record things.

Just to be safe, you might want to make sure it's plugged into the correct jack (simple I know, but I've had calls over worse). If the computer is relatively new, it should have a pink jack for mic input. If not, it's probably time to break out the trusty flashlight to find the jack that has the microphone on it.
One thing that Josh alluded to above, is that there is a chance that there are 2 separate audio cards in your system... if this is the case, there will be one directly next to the keyboard and mouse plug-ins, and one a little further down (most of the time it's down) from where the keyboard and mouse plug-in. Just remember pink.
Cheers! MM
